Pre-Retirement Program for TNB staff

BASICS OF A CATERING BUSINESS
The 5-day program was conducted on the 26th - 30th May 2008. This specially tailored program covered the aspects of an individual's preparation as they approach retirement.
The focus of this program was to expose participants on committments involved in setting up and running a catering business. Among topics covered during the program were: costs involved in running a catering business, basics of food serving, table setting, and the importance of hygiene in food handling.
Participants were also given a hands-on cooking training. The 5-recipe training covered appetizers, main course and desserts. Participants were also exposed to the various financing and loans available to start a business.
To conclude the 5-day training, an experienced enterpreneur in catering business was invited to share his experience in managing a catering business.
Findings: Participants who had never cooked before, let alone peel an onion, discovered that they CAN cook!
Outcome: Participants brought home the product of their work to their family who were equally suprise but happy on their previously undiscovered talent.
Conclusion: A caterer's life has begun to take shape.
We hope to see more of TNB retirees or anyone who is interested on the basics of a catering business to join us in the future programs.
For those who are interested in cooking specifics, we have various type of cooking classes targeting the professionals and non-professionals alike. Contact us for more information.
